UK news content will be available with audio and later video for Echo Show owners

London 4th October 2017: Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), a division of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB), today announced that MTV UK News has teamed up with Amazon to launch a new Flash Briefing skill for Echo Show, which is being launched in the UK following a successful US rollout.

From today, fans with Alexa enabled devices will have access to an audio MTV News UK Flash Briefing, featuring a bulletin of the day’s biggest pop culture stories. A video version of the bulletin is to be made available upon shipping of the new Echo Show next month.

“We want MTV’s content to be available everywhere our audience is, which is why we’re excited to launch a new skill for the Amazon Echo Show,” commented Joanna Wells, Vice President, Digital Content for MTV UK “MTV News leads the pop-culture conversation 24/7 and is enjoying massive growth in digital engagement – we’re sure it will equally engage and excite audiences on Alexa-enabled devices.”

Since transitioning from a linear TV bulletin to a digital news service in 2016, MTV News UK has experienced a massive upswing in the digital reach and consumption of MTV’s pop culture news content and is now averaging more than 150m online views each month across all mediums. Performance has been boosted by trending news, viral conversation, and world-class access to celebrity talent.

The roll out of the new MTV News UK skill for Amazon’s Echo Show forms part of VIMN’s wider push to embrace multiplatform and next generation TV and follows on from the recent launch of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah skill on Amazon Alexa in the UK.
